December 2015

I am writing out Christmas Cards and reflecting on the reason we do this in an age of instant communication via email and Facebook.  We often don't reflect enough or think about the relationship between an action and its consequence.  Sending out Christmas cards seems to be redundant when you can just do a mass MERRY CHRISTMAS on Facebook and be done with it. Though inevitability even that starts a debate on what is the "Real Meaning Of Christmas".  It requires very little thought or effort. Two things there is a dearth of these days. People are so invested in how others behave, yet give very little thought to their own behavior.

December is the time of the year when the nights are longest and the days are gloomy and short (unless you live down under or at the equator).   The point being that there is a rhythm to the seasons and we have forgotten how to live in balance to the heartbeat of the world.  This is a time of slowing down and doing the deep work.  I have always thought of the winter solstice as the true "New Year". We have completed one full cycle of shortest day to shortest day.  On the winter solstice we will begin to move back into the light and we could sure use some light in this world right now. I have a friend who is an author and I am reading her next book/manuscript and I can feel her anger in what we have done to the oceans, each other, and how our disregard for the consequences of our actions causes such great harm to the world and the creatures we share it with.  Her characters are fictional, the damage to the orca whales and the oceans in her story are real.

We, as a species, have created much harm to ourselves and the world around us.  I think it is time to do the deep work, to slow down, to listen to the heart beat of the world and remember that everything we do has a consequence in the real world.  Hate and the energy of hate just creates more in the world.  How we live and how we conduct ourselves does matter and like a pebble in a pond it ripples out to influence everything around us.  We need to stop ignoring what we don't want to see or what makes us uncomfortable.  It is time to begin a new cycle and to be a light in the world and to question those who want us to live in darkness and a world of hate.
